Default UK to Seattle - HELP!

Can someone please tell me how long it will take for me to start working in Seattle? I am a British citizen, BSc educated, with a big company interested in me, but I have absolutely no clue how long it will all take. A month? Less? More? Please please help!

I live in Sale, Cheshire, England.

It took me 10 months to get my H1B but then most are done in much less than that.

Good luck.

But you didn't have to wait 10 months to actually start working did you? You can start working before the visa is physically in your possession? Please say yes! If so, how soon were you able to start working from the beginning of the whole process? That is essentially what I need to know.

Many thanks!

friend of mine from The Netherlands got it within 7 weeks I think in most cases that
is the time it takes if the company in the US pushes it a little....

Today, INS offers premium processing, which guarantees a decision or a request for
more evidence within 15 days for an extra $1000 fee.

You do have to wait until you have the visa stamped in your passport. For that
matter, you won't even be allowed to travel to the US without the visa (don't try to
use the visa waiver! You are not allowed to change to anything else with that)

Default H1-B - what happens next?

First a thank you to Ingo et al for helpful advice back in 1999 when I was
researching a H1-B visa application. I received my visa in March 2000 and commenced
work here in Texas the following month.

My question now is what happens next?

The visa is, in my understanding, valid for a maximum of six years; and although I
seem to have *lost* some time insofar as my first chunk 'expires' on November 1st
this year (and not March 2003 as expected) I would like to know what will happen when
the expiration is due.

Will my company receive notification from the INS or do they have to re-apply for the
extension via some form? Or, do I do this as an individual? My company is happy to
keep employing me in the current position.

Thanks,

Marion

You didn't actually lose the time. The six years count from the day you first
entered the US.

Just make sure that your employer files an application for an extension before
November 1, 2002. That extension will get you an H-1B until November 1, 2002. You can
then apply for another extension until March 2006.

The employer has to initiate the extension. INS does not notify anybody.

    >Or, do I do this as an individual?

No, the employer does it. The process is virtually identical to the original
H-1B process.

Have them apply for a Green Card for you! Do that quickly because, who knows how
long it will take (it took six years for me! It's probably going to be faster for
you, though).

Hello, Stephen! Glad to hear you managed to get your hi-b at long last!
I have been trying to get employment in the US for coming upto 5 yrs now but no luck yet, thats despite being a fully qualified electronics engineer with over 15 yrs experience working on radar, cellular phones, fibre optics, video systems and more !!
Can you please advise as to how you got your foot in the door, as I,ve found that 99% of US companies do not want to take on non-US citizens, even tough I have made it clear that I will be willing to shoulder all relocation costs.
Any advice would be much appreciated. happy Easter!
