Travel visa question
Hello all
This is for the gurus out there from whom I would much appreciate any
help. I am a canadian resident, I have an L1B from my current
employer. The Visa is just to aid my frequent work related travel to
the US. Now my question is whether I would I have to get a Visitor
visa if I wanted to go visit a personal friend in California (which is
not a location that my employer has offices in)?
I will appreciate any thoughts on this.
Regards
Andy

Re: Travel visa question
Yes, you're supposed to get a Visitor visa in that case as your trip
would have a touristic purpose rather than a professional purpose (for
which the L1B is for).

Noone can be admitted under two separate categories at the same time. You can have two H1B, or two TN admissions at the same time, but you can't have an H1B and a TN admission, or an F-1 and a TN admission at the same time.
If an L1 also included their tourist visit to California with a business trip, then there would be no problems. An L1 can come work, buy a house, send their kids to public school, and even have immigrant intent etc with no problems.

Ok I am a little confused now. So are you saying that If my employer
(L1B) wanted me to visit California for some reasons, then that would
be ok?

Have evidence that you're still employed with the petitioning company and combine the pleasure trip with a business trip.
