Transfer advice needed
Guys,
A little advice needed. My wife and I had our AOS interview in Boston
today. I did not get the I-551 stamp as they did not have our
"original file". It seems Vermont still has it as I came to the US
via a K-1. The officer said they had requested it a month before but
it is yet to appear. He said they have requested it a second time but
it may take up to 90 days. He said, once he reviews that "original
file", he will send us a decision in writing.
Now the problem starts. Come August 4th I start a new job in Chicago.
Had I gotten the stamp it would not have been an issue since the
actual card would have probably been forwarded to our new address.
What should I do now? My AP is expiring in 15 days and I surely
intend to get it renewed before I leave. My EAD expires mid-Jan 2004.
Should I get that renewed too? I know by law I will have to send an
AR-11 to Kentucky within 10 days of moving. Should I ask Boston to
send my file to Chicago? Or should I hope that in 90 days I will get
an approval letter from Boston? Even if that letter makes it to my new
address in Chicago, will the Chicago office give me an I-551 stamp?
Any advice/suggestions would be welcome.
Regards,
S K Ghori.

Mr. Folinskyinla,
Could you please clarify? I will be sending an AR-11 to Kentucy
ofcourse. However what should I do with the offices on Boston and
Chicago? Ask one to send the file and the other to request it via
separate letters, or hope the AR-11 to Kentucky will take care of it?

I assume the same would hold true for the district and suboffices (but of course, I could be wrong about that).
