Hi all,

Here's my situation:

I just finished my BS here in NJ (I live in NY) and have 2 months of OPT left, which
will expire on August 5th. If I were to marry my girlfriend (US citizen), how long
would it take to receive my work-permission?

I do have a SS-Number and am currently looking for a job, but I would require H1B
sponsorship (which, as I was told, could take up to 4-6 months to be processed).

So I was wondering if anybody could giveme some information on the time-frames and
what exactly the procedures are if we were to marry.

The INS web-page seems to focus on couples who marry abroad or where at least
one person is not living in the US, but I was unable to find useful information
for my case.

Thanks in advance,

-Jan

It depends on which local INS office in NY you will be using. Could be the same day
or after 3 months.

You could start with these two FAQs:

Spouse FAQ: http://starwind7.home.att.net/immigration.htm I-130 Help Site:

Some time frames: http://www.kamya.com/misc/
