Re: Thinking about moving to NYC
I'm afraid you are completely wrong. Listen, honestly, you have zero chance of moving to NYC right now. You don't need a greencard, you need one of the many immigrant/non-immigrant visas. Unfortunately, you don't qualify for one.
Here are your options (ranked in order of most likely to succeed):
1. Invest several hundred thousand dollars in a Big Balla Visa
2. Marry a USC, get a K-1 Visa
3. Sign up for a masters degree at NYU, get a J visa (but you need to show you have enough money to pay tuition fees and living expenses, think $60k+)
4. Start working for the British offices of an American firm, transfer across after a year on an L-1 visa.
5. Find a company in the city willing to offer you a 'highly specialised' job, i.e. it makes use of your degree. The company will then apply for an H1 visa, but they have to offer you above market wage and pay several thousand dollars in lawyer/application fees.
Until you can do one of those, you have zero, zilch, de nada, ne pas rein, NULL chances of moving to the states full time. No ifs, no buts, don't waste your time thinking otherwise.
So if you're still serious, points 1, 3 and 4 are achievable goals you can start working for/saving towards. It'll take a couple years at least, but St Marks Place isn't going anywhere.

Unless it's bar work in the UK, forget it. You can't work without work authorization and you don't have it and you won't be able to get it via a bar job. You're just having a laugh really aren't you or are you really as dumb and deluded as you come across?

Thanks for your reply mate. I never realised it would be so tough. All I really want to do is pay my way while I hang out. As it stands it looks like bar work for now until I can sort out one of the options you mentioned like get a job with a UK company. Don't fancy marrying anyone right now - too many fish in the sea If anyone has any tips on bar work let me know. Otherwise cheers for the info.
Why not go about it the right way, return home and work towards a more permanent stay? Or alternatively, consider Canada! Sounds as though you're fairly young, so look in to Bunac (just Google it).

Just ticked no on all the forms like everyone does. As I said, it was such a small amount and so long ago there is no point in bringing it up and risking getting any problems. My mate has been busted for fighting twice (GBH) but never had any problems. After all why draw attention to something so trivial?

In which case, forget ever moving to the US, you've screwed up any slim chance you ever had by lying on ESTA.

Eh?!? What does 'there every clique there is' mean?
I wasn't actually referring to his posts, when I originally thought it wasn't a wind up (as I said, opinion now revised as it's hard to believe anybody is quite *that* stupid), I was going on things like IP address and email address.

I thought it was a windup, although he mentioned Sir Alex being in the pub for the City game which brings an element of truth to it. I presume he is talking about Nevada Smiths, and I know that Ferguson does go there when he is in town. I know for a fact he was here around this time last year, the barman at Nevada's showed me a photo on his iphone of him and Ferguson. Apparently he didnt seem interested in talking football and went on about horse racing the whole time! Maybe this bloke is being serious?

Re: Thinking about moving to NYC
Let me make this simple for you... you lied on the I-94W - and that could lead to a permanent ban from the US. Yes... it's that simple. Also, you can not work in the US without employment authorization.. Yes... it's that simple.
So then... he's also a liar.
US immigration laws are designed specifically to keep non-USCs out of the US unless you fall within a set of very narrowly defined criteria.
That "special relationship" exists only in the minds of UK politicians. You've been listening to too much media hype.
Ian

Correct me if im wrong but as far as I know we have a special relationship with the USA...
