JuiceyLucie is an unknown quantity at this point
Default tempoary work in US,not sure what steps 2 take next.

About me:
My name is Lucie and Im currently a 19 year old student born in England who will be taking a degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology next year.

Goal:
My dream was to always work in law enforcement/legal field in America, preferably Washington DC/Virginia, but I don¡¦t want to limit my options on just those places, once ive graduated.

So now I am currently looking for work in the police departments in England before I graduate to give me as much experience as possible.

Achieving my goal:
To achieve my goal I plan on doing temporary summer work in the states in either the police departments/law firms or any work that involves law. I will be going to Virginia in mid June of 2005 for another holiday but I would rather make my summer 2005 be productive by gaining work experience there instead. My school holiday starts from mid June until the beginning of October then my degree starts.

The many questions that I have:
I have done my research and I know that I can go through organisations such as Bunac etc, but they are too costly so I would rather do all the research myself (I heard that u have to pay them more money if you want them to find you a placement or work).

„h Is it actually possible to do summer work or placements for such a short period of time in this field over in the states?

„h what type of visa would I need to apply for if I want to do temporary work in the states?

„h How would I be able to obtain the visa needed?

„h When shall I start applying to the companies/police departments?

Please help me achieve my goal, any kind of advice and tips will be greatly appreciated by me.

My email address is [email protected]

Many many thanx

Lucie.xxx =)

What you propose probably will not work. US law enforcement won't take
someone whose background they cannot check. Also, they have their own academies
from which they draw employees. As far as working at a lawyer's office, I
don't know how you can convince them to hire you without some kind of law
degree/bar exam (to work as a lawyer) or training/licensure to work as a
paralegal. Best to just finish your education where you are, do your
internships there and then see if you can get some company to sponsor you down
the road...
