Default SSN Info

Hi All,

SF 03-03 GS Effective Date: 03/24/2003

SSA can no longer accept SAVE verification of the A-number as evidence
of alien status when the original document is unavailable.

BCIS has advised SSA that the contractor responsible for keying
non-immigrant data into NIIS held many cases between December 2002 and
mid-February 2003 while making changes in their system. These
modifications went into production on the night of February 13, 2003,
and the contractor started loading the data on February 15. The
contractor currently has approximately eight million backlogged
records, and can only work through them on weekends. The contractor
estimates that they can process approximately 600,000 each weekend),
which means that the backlog should be worked off by mid-March.

This explains why SSA has had problems verifying immigration status
for non-immigrants online, and why status verifiers are sometimes
unable to verify the status of non-immigrants quickly when the G-845s
are sent.

Take care,

Mike

THIS explains everything.

Not that it makes our four month wait any more pleasant, but at least I understand the reason.

Thanks for posting this.

It didn't say, but I assume 2003.

Your input is prized!
Does this mean the contractor is processing info now received in real time, i.
e., from mid March arrivals forward, or do the mid March forward arrivals have
to get in line behind the back logged Dec. 2002 to mid Feb. 2002?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Archie Wilson

which is exactly where I'm stuck. GRRRR. Thank you so much Mike for
posting this information. As already mentioned...It doesn't make the
wait any less taxing - but if SSA and BCIS had told me this from the
beginning I wouldn't have hassled them all so much =o)

Hi All!

Well SSA people wouldn't had known this, since this didn't come out at SSA until the day I posted
it. Plus this was an SSA San Francisco Regional General Series (GS) message, so unless you work
in that region you probably wouldn't have got a copy or paid any attention to it if you didn't.
All EMs and Regional GSs are put on SSA's Intranet Policy Net system, but unless you check the
daily updates you probably wouldn't have seen it. Since I needs to know about changes I read all
of them everyday. I try to stay on top of any changes, but even I didn't know anything about the
Federal Register proposal until someone mentioned on here yesterday. Plus what BCIS and IRS does
also affects some things at SSA. Just so much gets changed that it's almost impossible to keep
track of everything.

Take care,

Mike
