Paul arrived last night from the UK. We went to the social security office in Clearwater,
FL. this morning. After about a 45 minute wait, he turned in his application and was asked
for his immigration papers. He gave them the I-94 and his passport; he did not have an EAD
in his paperwork. The lady said he could not have a SS number with this type of visa.
Luckily we had read and printed the item in Alvena's website about obtaining an EAD and
the fairly recent memo stating that K-1 visa holders are authorized to work and can obtain
a SS number without having the EAD stamp or card. After giving her a copy of the memo, she
went to either look it up herself or to speak to someone else. She came back, filled out
the rest of the form and Paul will have his SS card in about 1-2 weeks. We highly
recommend printing this out and taking it with you just in case. It will save you a return
trip and another wait in line. Best of luck to everyone going through the process and many
thanks for all the helpful advice and tips along the way!

Margaret (FL) Paul (UK/FL)....
