Default Security Clearnace

Okej,

Here is my problem. I applied for a student visa back on June 1st, July 1 st I had my interview and was granted a visa but they would not issue it until I get cleared by Washington.

Around august 12, they had to resubmit the name check request cause the first one sent was not readable (Dont exactly know what they mean by that). Because no one notified the embassy about this on July 1 st I wasted 6 weeks for nothing!!!

About 2 weeks ago a computer visrus strikes in Washington . I called the embassy and they said they had to resubmit a list of names but weither I was on that list they would not tell . Am I not entitled to know?

They said that the ones who fell off the list would probably be priorotised. NOT a word of truth in that, I presume.

It has now been close to 3.5 months since they first submitted the name clearance request.

Remeber I am applying for a student visa, this can NOT be normal I feel I want evn get it in time for spring term. Are students supposed to apply for a visa a year ahead?

Does anyone have any thing to recomend I do? I am definetly not getting any answers from the embassy.

Thanks

Yeah, welcome to the club :-) I have a feeling that F-1 visas (or even
H-1B's for a job in the university) are especially hard to get these
days.
I've ran into a long delay last time I had to get F-1 (that
was about 5 years ago). All I could think of was calling the
International office in school. They've promised to help,
and indeed I've got a visa fairly quickly after that. I don't
know whether they've done anything or that was just a coincidence.

Unfortunately, your story seems to be the rule rather than the exception.
3.5 months would be extremely fast, actually. The fastest I have heard of
the security check being completed is around six months, and I have also
heard stories of over a year (which is just about as long as the program
has been in place).
