Residency Requirement
I've been married for over 3 years, but i've had the greencard for 1
yr. Does the citizenship requirement start from the day i was married,
in that case i can file the petition or does it start from the day i
became permanent resident, in that case i have to wait another 2 yrs?
Please Advise

Re: Residency Requirement
To gain citizenship via marriage you must be a resident of the US for 3
years. This doesn't mean time that you are married, but how long you've held
your greencard. We'll be married 5 years in October, but my husband has only
held a greencard since December 1999. Therefore he was not eligible to for
citizenship until the third anniversary of his greencard which was December
2002. You can apply 90 days before the third anniversary of your greencard.
