requirements for j-1
hi!
what exactly are the requirements for a j-1 visa? does it have to be sponsored by a official organisation or could i just find a company who would like to train me/have me as a trainee?
if yes, what would they have to do? follow a special process, provide
some kind of evidence?
thanks a lot!

You must find an approved J-1 program. If an employer wants to train
you but is not an approved J-1 sponsor, the employer must either work
with an approved J-1 program to place you or must apply for J-1 sponsor
status. The latter is a lot of work just to employ one person.
Note, if the employer is really training you, the H-3 trainee visa may
be appropriate. The key is that the training must be actual training as
opposed to productive labor (hands-on work is allowed as a component of
the training).
