Default Reentry Permit - apply for new while old one is still valid?

Hello all:

My in-laws all have a green card thru Green Card Lottery. They had applied for and
were granted reentry permits 1.5 years ago - good until March 2003. My
father-in-law is a surgeon and he cannot work in the US as an MD. My brother-in-law
is still going to college in Turkey so they all have to stay in Turkey for at least
another year. They are here in the US right now and we are wondering if they can
apply for another reentry permit which would start in March 2003 and would be good
for another year. Does INS issue a second reentry permits in advance while the
first one is still valid?

Thanks a lot for your input. My email address is [email protected]

I'm not sure. I think it would be better to return to the US in February of 2003, and
reapply then. It is enough to reapply before leaving the US, you don't have to wait
for the reentry permit to actually be issued.
