Default Received Social Security Card - Missing Hyphen

Just got my Social Security card - yay!

But it shows my surname (which is hyphenated) as missing the hyphen (it matches with the immigrant visa and the order of the hyphenated names in my passport).

Is it worth amending at this stage?

I'm going with - It does not matter. You can get it changed, but names here in US seem to be much more "flexible" than I remember in UK.

"Fictitious name" is a legal term - you can register one

No. You'll find that no one really cares about the name, only the number!

The same thing happened for me when I received my SSN card - I didn't change it and it's never been an issue TBH... now the documents WITH the hyphen, that's a different story. Not sure TN systems know what to do with hyphens

As far as I can tell most people (who ask to see it) don't even care whether or not it's a genuine Social Security card!

Good to know! I am going back to the DMV with it in hand, so hoping they will issue me the State ID now

I seem to remember a thread about this on another forum I'm on and there was some issue with E-verify and hyphenated names. When you fill in the I-9 I assume you're going to use the hyphen, if the employer uses E-verify you might want to make sure they try it without the hyphen if it causes a problem.
