There are consequences associated with this choice. For one, if you're
out of the province you reside (for Ontario and Quebec) more than a
certain period of time in a given year, your health care plan in that
province is cancelled, because you cease to be a resident there after
a prolonged abense, despite maintaining an address in that province.
When I renewed my health care in Quebec, they were specific to how
much time was spent in Quebec, not Canada. So staying the US for more
than six months might constitute to loss of residency with the
province. The federal government will still want their tax money.
