I agree, I recall one of our resident lawyers mentioning a case of a Permanent Resident who went to Canada for one day to activate some kind of Canadian resident visa or permit. This person was deemed to have abandoned his US residency status upon return to the US. So an LPR 's actions or lack thereof while abroad, very much comes into play.
