A Question
Hello,
I'd be grateful if someone could give a little info.
I'm a British citizen presently living in the UK. I have an old employer in the US who I approached asking if if they would be interested in reemploying me. They work in the Mental Health field, a big provider in the North East. I am a qualified Mechanical Engineering with a lot of experience and a strong vocation to work with these clients but no formal qualifications in this field (apart from a teaching diploma in Waldorf education). It may be likely that there is a strong interest on thier part on moving to get a visa arranged.
So my question is: is there an appropriate visa for someone like me? Does anyone have any experience of something like this?
Cheers, Victor.

Several come to mind:
- - F-1 to get related training, then join them with an H-1B.
- - H-1B directly if you can make a case that your engineering degree is
related to the work. For instance, if you would be training the disabled
people in some related field, you might be able to get it.
- - an EB-3 Green Card. This would require a lot of patience, and you
probably will need to prove that you have at least two years experience
in that field (you can do without the experience as an unskilled worker,
but then the quota will hit you likely even more severely).
Plus, of course, if you happen to have a US girlfriend, marry her.

In addition to the other suggestions, I would look to see if, by dint of
experience and education combined, you might qualify for degree
equivalency in a field appropriate to what is required for the position.

Depending on when and for how long you worked for them in the UK (1
year within the past 3 years) you might be eligible for an L1 visa.
