Re: Potential move to Philly
Thanks for the reply,
I'll answer in line if I may...
As I said further up the thread, some of the work they do for certain clients has to be done in the states.
Similarly, some of the work I've done here at home - even remotely - has to be done in the UK or EU, all to do with regulatory requirements & data residency.
I haven't specifically asked them that but based on what I know about the company, the costs would not be a problem.
Sorry, I'm not sure what point you're making here.
I appreciate there must be a few fly-by-night companies out there, but if I'm understanding you correctly your point seems to be predicated on the assumption that the company would not or could not pay for a visa or any other costs.
All I would say is, based on what I know about the company & how they are growing, I don't think that would be a problem.
But on the other hand, you may be right! :-)

I’ll be honest with you - we see here on a regular basis people who have been “offered a job” or “asked to come and work” over here and the vast majority of times the offers have been made by companies without any knowledge of research on what it costs the company to bring in someone from overseas. Unless the company has been through this process before it’s possible that they are completely unaware that THEY have to do all the paperwork, pay all the fees, etc. And considering there is a strong chance your wife won’t be able to work and you are uprooting a well-settled family of 4 to a place thousands of miles away, the compensation and relocation package that would justify all of that may be more than the company had in mind.

Re: Potential move to Philly
I think this caught the the forum's attention:
After a chat I've said to them I'd maybe like to move over there after the summer. They have said that they'd speak to me about it again in June & I could speak to their immigration lawyer & a realtor then.
As you said, speaking in June and moving at end of summer is completely unrealistic - something a company used to sponsoring foreign workers would know

OP, the size of the company is not what led me to think they have no clue. In fact, smaller, niche companies may be more versed in the process of talent scouting overseas and bringing people into the country due to the very small pool of suitable candidates if the product or skill is very specialist in nature.
The clues that make me question their knowledge of the process are that they think you can “chat in June and move a few months later” and that they have not given you any indication as to which visa type they will be organizing for you. You need to know these things.
