Passport held for visa processing
I was told after an application for a B2 tourist visa that it was highly likely to be approved but required some administrative processing. This was in Belfast last week and my passport was subsequently held. I was told if I didn’t hear anything for a week to contact them so I emailed today.
As this situation is slightly different (ie I am not necessarily waiting for a decision for them to then request my passport if successful) how much longer should I expect to wait? Surely they can’t keep my psssport for many weeks but obviously felt confident enough the visa would be approved in order to keep hold of it.
Thanks

If you have been put into AP for security check reasons, the wait time for clearance could be many weeks or even months.
the fact that they kept your passport is a good sign, but really there's nothing you can do but wait. Yes, it can take weeks if necessary.
