Hi Just after some quick help. My husbands passport is about to run out of room (he does A LOT of travelling). His L1 visa is in the 'old' passport. How easy is it to get a new one? Or does it just hold onto the 'old' passport with the visa in it and travel on his new one?

Thanks Ray. And doing that he would have no problems at immigrations?

and sorry one more question. Would he be expected to get his visa transfered over? or is it ok just to keep carrying it in his old passport?

Its quite normal ...lots have to do it ...
It won't be tranferred over until its renewed

I know, but luckily for us his work pays Which is a good thing cos its only one and a half years old!

You can actually order a jumbo passport that has extra pages if he is a frequent traveller - it costs a bit extra, but that is probably not a problem if the company is paying for it. I did this when I renewed my passport last year (and I am also still carrying around my old passport with the L1 in it).

He already has a jumbo one..... thats how much travelling he does. Well lots of places he goes to need whole page visas, and they won't squeeze the stamps together, so he's run out. But the best thing is we're not telling anyone he can carry his old one, so he has a great excuse not to travel for a while

Why does he have to get a new one? Why can't he just get more pages?

Not every country adds extra pages to a passport.

the british government will give you 2 passports, you have to pay extra for the 48 page one//// depnds where you are in the US, but you need a letter from your employer/accountant if self employed....

you need to take your old passport to the embassy, but then they will give it you back.... then staple it to one of new ones...

having 2 is easy to get.. the brit gov are promoting it, as it saves a fortune on HMG, when brits are p****** and lose one!!!

all these rules on 2/3 passports started in the 60's/70' when if you went to an arab country and then israel or vis-versa... then you could not enter....

having to passports... gives you 96 pages.... and no hassle for 10 years... plus an extra 9 months.. if your current one is not expired....

go onto www.passport.gov.uk, telephone the NEWPORT office in UK working hours and they will confirm this..... it is common knowledge within the business community...

they will instantly confirm that 2 passports can be issued... once you have already had one... obviously not given to new apps...

but the lady's in question has already had one...

do not kill the old passport... as this will be shown on all major countries systems as in valid.... but get it clipped... then the visa is still valid

in some cases...( people working in old CIS and China) you can get 3 passports....

in the us, only certain consuls can issue new passports....otherwise apply thro the post via a UK (family) address it takes 10 days (within the the UK..3 days either side uk/usa/uk)

Only the washington Embassy can issue UK passport ...period

They also say

If you do not live in the UK you may apply for a passport from your nearest Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. Alternatively, you may also apply to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS) in person whilst visiting the UK..

In order to do this, you need to make an appointment with IPS in the UK and you must provide an address in the UK to which the passport may be posted.

Applicants will have to be available at this address to sign for the receipt of the passport. Please note that IPS do not accept applications by post or e-mail if you live abroad.
