Lol The men at my oath ceremony wore suits or shirt and tie. The women wore pretty dresses. A few wore pants but with nice shoes-- not trainers. It's a once in a life-time occasion. Get the glad rags out....

I would suspect that means NO cut off jeans, exposed crack pants,
thongs, string vests, gang symbols, and so on. Personally, I'd also stay
away from overtly national costumes from other nations, burkas,
bournouses, and so on, but thats a personal choice. Assume that you are
attending a job interview in a bank...thats should do it.

Now that you mention it, I didn't see anyone in national dress from other nations!! Probably because when it comes to the time to become an US citizen, the home country is all but a distant dream...

I don't know. That sounds like traditional American dress to me.
At least it shows you're trying to adapt ;-)

Actually many of the very young men and women in Jim's swearing in ceremony came dressed as if they were going to the beach or panhandling or soliciting on a corner right from the ceremony. Other than the dye-tyed hair in neon colors, some wore jeans with holes, tee shirts with a variety of sayings on them, sneakers, jogging clothes, tight skirts and sweaters which might be viewed as a cork and a bandaid, etc., some unshaven and others unbathed.

Fortunately, the already tipsy federal judge refused the use of cameras in his courtroom and speeded the ceremony along by leaving the courtroom once the oath was recited. There were no guess speakers.

Well !!I thought that might be what you want to wear to your oath ceremony As you can probably tell, I recently watched the 1968 version of "Lion in Winter" on DVD. Enjoyed it every bit as much as I did as a young thing back then....

More of an Anthony Hopkins fan myself, although Peter O'Toole was pretty fetching as Lawrence in his flowing white robes. Also, confusingly I know, I'm female, so my bowler hat/pinstripe suit wearing is limited.
