Default O/T: Sigh.......can't people get things right?

I went to my GP a while ago asking which vaccinations I'd had throughout my life, and I found out which ones I'll need to move to the US. I phoned Dr. Phelan's office in London and asked what construes as "proof", and they said all I'd need is a write-up of all the ones I'd had, with the medical centre stamp on it.

I told the practice manager today, word for word what I needed, and she said I could collect it at the end of the day. Yay!!!!.....or not yay!!
I took one look, and got that she hadn't listened to a word. There was no stamp whatsoever, and she'd photocopied all the other crap I've had medical treatment for, with hardly any mention of the jabs I've had.

Aaaarrrrrggggggghhhh!!!!!!!! Give it to me, I'll do it myself!!!!!! :scared:

Anyway, I suppose I'll have to get another one when I go for the other jabs I need. Why do us feeble humans make mistakes?

Hi Kate,

Almost the same thing happened to me, I showed them the instructions at the medical centre and they photocopied it then paid the £10 the GP wanted for the letter. When I cam back 2 days later they presented me with a scrap of paper with a list of my jabs on it, it didnot have my name on it, my doctors name on it, the medical centres name on it nothing. It could have been a shopping list for all anyone cared.

I kicked up a bit of a fuss, unlike me but I paid £10 for something specific. I came back the next day and they had written me a letter on the medical centres headed paper with my name on it and the date and jabs I had. It wasn't signed by the gp or had a stamp on it but I thought I should take whatever I could get and it was OK for the doctors

Kate, you really need to take a deep breath, count to 100 (in INS working days, not normal breathing days, lol). I'm not 100% sure, but I think that 'surgery stamps' , ie, stamps that you see on prescriptions you get from your local gp, are actually stamped by the local health authority, in order to stop prescription fraud. What they gave you, the photocopy, may or may not have had a letterhead, the important thing to remember is, as long as the record they gave you is factual, then if the embassy in London/INs over there ever checks up on what you gave them, the copy matches the official records.

Now, calm down. Please. Lol.

But what got me riled was that it had my entire medical history, except the majority of the jabs I've had. They completely missed out the ones I had when I was a nipper, and the ones I had at school, when I specifically asked for ALL my jabs, and NONE of my other medical stuff.

in case it helps with these worries over jab records.

i didn't see a doc about it. i just asked the receptionist at the practice to
photocopy mine and my daughters' yellow sheet (the vaccination record in the
med notes in uk). when she gave me the copies - about 1 min later - i said,
'can you just stick your stamp on that so they know i'm not making it up,
americans seem to love stamps'. she had a stamp there in reception and just did
it. no headed paper. no signatures. no fee.

the doc at dr phelan's practice accepted it without question.

regards

Is there a definitive list out there in cyberspace of ALL the jabs needed
for a UK citizen crossing the pond?.I'm a confirmed needle hater so I'm
thinking it'd be really nice not to get needled unnecessarily (leaves room
to untwist tongue)

Oh my word......

I thought I was totally alone on this one, I phoned my surgery and explained what I required, I was told to come in to the surgery later that day and pick up a print out of my jabs record, I arrived at the reception desk later that day and the print out only listed 2 jabs......I know that I have had all the required injections so I explained again to the receptionist and she said that she would get the manager to call me.

I received the call back from the Manager the next day and she said she had looked through my record and added all my childhood jabs.......but I still have a problem I have 2 jabs missing from the print out. Rubella and BCG (Tuberculosis). I definitely had both these jabs done at school, but they are not on my record. the Surgery manager says she cannot do anything, so I am stuck what do I do?????????. I believe that with regards to BCG, I can have the 6 pin test thing done, this will show that I have had this injection.....

Any suggestions.

Listed injections

1st Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough, Polio Vacc
2nd Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough, Polio Vacc
3rd Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough, Polio Vacc
Measles
pre School triple Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough, Polio Vacc
Booster Polio Vacc
Tetanus Booster.

See this page and the vaccination chart link on the page

Get them done by your GP as they will likely be much more expensive if
you have them done the day of the interview

Don't get too worked up on this - as an adult under 65 you only need two
jabs, both listed on the table if I remember correctly. My Doc's records
had nothing for my jab history. The surgery that I'd had them done at was
closed years ago. So I took a copy of the table to the surgery with me,
nursy looked at it and jabbed me twice, updated my records and printed it
out there and then. It also didn't have my name on, or surgery details
either. So I pinched a surgery compliment slip, stapled the two together
and that was accepted at Doc Phelans.
The other interesting point is that they werent concerned with my past
history for jabs, I dont know if you can overdose on those things? Any
ideas anybody?
Anyway, I hope this helps. Regards, Jacqueline

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! An explanation as to why I'm so odd!!!!!
When I talked to the nurse, she said, "My word, you've had a lot of tetanus jabs!!!" This scared me a little, I must say!!! (Not really!!) I don't think she read WHY I'd had so many, though. I'm so clumsy, I'm surprised I'm still in one piece!!! I used to be on first name terms with the staff in casualty!!!!!!! Such is life........!!!

Thanks for all the advice, peeps. It's always very welcome and very helpful.
