Hi All,
Is Nurse in the specialty occupation list?

What is the best pathway for a registered nurse with Bachelor of Nursing for an Australian citizen towards a permanent resident? E3 or H-1B ?

Any age restriction for permanent resident petition?

Nurses are needed, to be sure... but there are no visas available for nurses. Research "nurse retrogression"

H1b hard to get especailly when many US nurses are struggling to find work. As mentioned look up retrogression and also check out www.allnurses.com International forum where you will see many threads on retrogression and current long long wait for a visa

E3 may be an option and you can work in the US whilst waiting for a GC however finding employer may be the issue again but may help if you have experience in something that is in demand

No doubt, E3 is really your only viable option. Whether an employer willing to hire you on E3 will also be willing to give you a greencard is not certain. You'll have to find one and ask.

And even if employer says yes, the waiting time may stretch into years.

Nope, not on E3. It takes about 3 weeks if you're already licensed in the US.
