Hey, we applied for a waiver in Germany a month later than you and also haven't heard back. In the recent past we got waivers back after 2-3 months but as you know that's no indication as to whether you will get yours anytime soon. I know it's super frustrating, especially if a lot of changes in your life are depending on this.
I'm slightly worried as they are probably very very busy with waivers just now due to the high volume of applicants who are going for summer holidays or starting school in the US in September. It really would be great if they continuously released data indicating processing times of individual cases, that way we'd be able to calculate the distribution and how this shifts throughout the year. Good luck! Good luck to you too! |

You already know the whens and ifs. It's just a waiting game so sit back, forget about your visa application for the moment and just get on with the rest of your life. It's only a visa and not really worth the aggravation and stress of constantly worrying about it.

Thanks for the comment, I know you mean well! But some of us are not waiting for a tourist visa and a little more than a holiday is on the line. If you're moving to the US on a NIV with dependents and have a deadline for which you have to be in there (starting a job/school), and simultaneously trying to finish up your responsibilities at home as well as finding a new home in the states, this unknown waiting game does indeed put your life on hold. It's a huge financial responsibility too, and waiting 6 rather than 3 months means lots and lots of extra spendings.

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Thought I'd provide a bit of an update on my case. Received my email today asking me to send my passport in for Visa issuance. I had my interview at the end of March and was told it would be approximately 6-8 months for a waiver so looks like either I'm one of the lucky ones or processing has sped up massively since then.

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hi everyone,
I was put forward for a waiver of ineligibility following an interview on April 5th. I understand it is just a case of waiting for the email to come through from the visa office as to whether this has been granted - can anyone please advise who sends the email or what the subject title is so I can look out for it? Also is there a way of checking if the waiver of ineligibility has already been unsuccessful? Would they send an email notification or is there anywhere online that displays this information? Apologies if this question has been answered previously. Thanks in advance Many thanks |

Hi Goomerang,

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Further update in case it helps anyone else:
- Had interview at London Embassy on 23rd March and was told a waiver was being submitted on my behalf - Received email from Embassy on 24th July asking me to submit my passport - Passport submitted on 25th July and delivered 26th July - CEAC status changed to 'Administrative Processing' on 30th July - CEAC status changed to 'Issued' on 3rd August - Passport received back by courier with Visa inside on 4th August Total time from interview to receiving Visa: 4 months, 14 days Thanks for all the advice on this forum - it was massively helpful. Good luck to everyone also waiting on waiver! |
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hey all, I didn’t know you could check the status on the CEAC. what did your status say prior to the processing etc please? |

I know they said it can take upto 6 months but just wondering if anyone who had an interview in April or near abouts has heard any news back yet. Or what the waiting time is like. There's nothing much you can do at this stage when it's only been 4 months since the interview and that is still very much within the normal timescale. Try not to obsess about the email. Just forget about it and wait patiently for the moment.
Thanks again |

thank you for the reply I appreciate that. I booked a surprise trip for her to Florida in November so trying to wait patiently is not good haha. I didn't realise they took this long so my fault entirely. Should have checked. Thanks again |

My previous experience was similar, as was my partner's. This is one of the more consistent areas of this process!!! Congratulations on finally getting sorted. I still abide by the advice of never booking anything until the visa is in hand. Thanks for this info it's really useful. I recently received the email and dropped my passport off at the courier this week to be sent back to the US consulate. Would you receive another email once this passport has been sent back for delivery to me, and would they deliver back to the courier DX office I dropped off at, or to your home address? Also is there any way of tracking this? Many thanks in advance |

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hi all finally received the email so happy. Could you help it says for first time visa applicants refer to your appointment instructions for a list of required documents. Can’t seem to find this. I have printed the authorisation certificate and have my passport is there anything else I need before I go and drop the passport off at DX |
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hey all,
So we had my husbands appointment march 27th, got an email 2 days ago asking for 'a detailed personal statement about the offence'. We returned it straight away with some character references etc and had confirmation of that and now we wait. Has anyone else had similar? Many thanks |
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application

Sent passport the next day & received passport back today with 5 years until it expires. So all in together 5 months & 17 days. So happy, we can get excited about our dream holiday now. Just want to thank everyone for the updates, has really helped. Thank you again. |

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hi all,
I interviewed at Belfast mid-May, my case was slightly complicated as it seemed I could fall under a term allowing me an automatic visa but in the end it was put forward for a waiver. I received an email this week saying it's been approved and to send passport, which is great news. I enquired and it's a 5 year visa (my first one), I presume I can enter as many times as I like? What happens if my passport expires or is lost, do I need to go through the whole process again or would they grant a visa again based on the same expiry date? |

You need to apply from scratch all over again for a new visa. If your passport expires before the visa does, you can continue to use the existing visa (you'd need to show both passports - the new one and the old one containing the visa) as long as it remains in date and hasn't been defaced by having the corner cut off or any other steps that may have taken place when the old passport is cancelled at the time of renewal. |

Average time recently for London has been around the 5 months mark to get to the 'send passport for visa' stage and then it's usually about a 7-10 days from then before you get your passport back. Based on this... I would estimate you'd be looking at around 15th March 2019, if all goes well (you're not denied) and no follow-up information is requested. Without sounding too negative, the odds are not in your favour and I would suggest seeing what options (begging if required) are available to move that date back a bit. |
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Yeah the guy said 4-5"months , I've spoken to British Airways too, if I get it in time I'm going if I'm refused I can't go anyway, if I get it after my cut off point agreed with BA then I'll go in 2020.....

Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Hi, received a caution about a year ago today for possession of a controlled substance. Thinking about applying for a us visa at some point in the new year. my questions are as follows: 1) how much does it cost 2) how long should I wait between the the offence and applying? would welcome any thoughts or stories from people with a similar problem to me. TIA |
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Visa costs £129...then you have to get an ACRO police certificate £45...IF you get put forward for a Waiver 6 month wait.. its down to circumstances, put as much down on your visa application form and show remorse... Apply now!!!!
|
Re: Nonimmigrant Visa Waiver of Ineligibility Application
Sorry I might add the fact the offence is recent, might go against you I was put forward for a, waiver as mine was over 7 years ago, the interviewer actually said that as its over 7 years old he'd put me forward, who n I said apply mow I mean the waiver times is normally 6 months my holidays up the creek
