Default Non-Immigrent Visa Help Required.

Hi all
I have appeared to US embassy for non-immigrant Visa to US. And got successful in the interview. After the interview Visa Officer told me that he is granting me a visa and its take 2-4 week to get back your passport. He said that your passport will be sends back to Washington for some administrative process.

Now it's almost 6 weeks gone, and didn’t get my passport back yet.

I want to know what that administrative process is. And how much time it normally takes at max

Early response will be highly helpful.

Best Regards
Sam

The "administrative process" can be one of several things, but likely is
what is also known as "Visa Mantis". This is especially true if you are
male and from an Arabic or Muslim country, or have any ties to that part
of the world, or if your name sounds similar to somebody in their
database.

It means that the FBI will check their records and make sure that you
aren't on any list of known terrorists. If your name and birthday is
similar to somebody on a list, it can take quite a while until they figure
out that you really are "safe". A while ago, they had a note on their Web
site indicating that 97% of all cases are cleared in 4 months. I have also
heard of some that took over a year, but many actually clear in six weeks
or less.

OK, Islamabad explains it. It is one of those places where men would be
put into Visa Mantis almost automatically.

Now the key point to understand is that Visa Mantis is not one particular
process that applies to everybody the same way. Rather, it is a process of
elimination. They first look at the simple stuff. If your name isn't
similar to a name on any watch list, they usually find that out within
days. That's likely why your friend's application came back quickly. If
your name is "John Smith" (or the local equivalent) or just happens to be
similar to a name on a watch list, then the FBI would have to dig deeper
to confirm or deny whether or not you are on the watch list. Depending on
how deep they need to dig, that can take anything from a few weeks to a
very long time. As far as I - or you - are concerned, it is completely
unpredictable.

we have applied for Non Immigrent Visit Visa. interview officer has took almost 30-45 minutes for interview. he ask all question related to our purpose of visit. then he asked why i trust u that u'll come back. and something like.

I think for u need to proof why r u going there, and that u'll come back and not going to stay there for ever.

wishing you best of luck in interview.
