Yep. My husband went to the emergency room for a kidney stone attack. Spent about 5 or 6 hours in the ER. Total bill came to $14,000. We have insurance and only had to pay $100. But just imagine if we didn't have insurance! Ack!

Make sure you look at the coverage in detail. Does it cover prescriptions? How much will it cover? How will it pay out? What does it cover in general? Does it only cover a limited time frame in one go? Eg it may be valid for 12 months but will it cover 12 months straight or will it only cover 30 days at a time. Stuff like that. Fine tooth comb certainly applies to health insurance.

Thanks Duncan, Like I said I have to spend lots of time looking at the small print.
I have been to Florida a good number of times and have always stayed in well located villas. Whilst there we have seen good property for sale at very good prices, agreed there are always added costs etc but I had a decent realtor ( user friendly ) recommended to me.
So when the time comes to start the ball rolling I will be using this company.

Once again in my first week of being a member you have all helped me immensely.

I doubt anyone here is using travel medical insurance - 99% of people posting here live in the US already.

Surely Saga do longer policies? I can't imagine that they only do 45-day cover, given that even basic entry to the US on the VWP is for 90 days!

You are probably looking at annual cover which has single trip limitations.

Probably will need to buy single trip cover for 6 months. Will not be cheap.

Nice thought. We are similar ages and moved here with a comfortable financial "cushion" ie. no big mortgage, a few $$$'s in savings for that "rainy day". BUT.....retirement here would be nigh-on impossible for us. We'll HAVE to continue to work to stay living here, if only for the health bennies.

I consider myself very fortunate (financially). We have a nice home, 2 vehicles, and can still afford to enjoy all the things Florida has to offer.

But my point is.......unless you are VERY well off, retirement's just a pipe-dream (for me, anyway)

Your comments are valued greatly, by then our mortgage will be finished. There is no guarantee that we will be successful with our application for a B2 Visa 6 months in and 6 months out, but all we can do is try. My works pension will be fine and as I have quoted earlier medical/travel insurance is being sought through internet search.

I wish you well.
