New to group: fumbling through INS process and need info...
.. mainly on my drivers licence.
Have been in SC for a year driving on my UK licence. Married my husband in October last year and am on his insurance. Insurance company want me to have a South Carolina licence.... which I can't get without my SSN number and EAD, and I am waiting for my EAD to get my SSN Arghghghghghgh! I have until 27th July on my UK licence, and then the year will be up. And I have a month to present my non existant SC licence. I feel like I am going round in circles. What should I do? Other than panic. I see on the SSN that I can get a card saying that I am not authorised for employement, but when I went to the office... they said I can't get one without an EAD. So confused. |
Do you have an ITIN, will they accept that instead?
It was a couple of years ago, pre 9/11 and in NY, so don't know if it can be done in your case, but I used my ITIN to get licence. |

My husband....
.. is a US citizen.
I filed in December and have a receipt notice. Filed for change of status etc. I have decided to go to the DMV office (have to go to one out of town) with everything I DO have and see if they can do ANYTHING. |

Rete has told you exactly what to do. The DMV office may be prevented by law from issuing you the license until you show work authorization. So you *must* solve the EAD problem. If you still have problems with getting the EAD after doing what Rete said, you should ask for the help of your Congressperson. Make a telephone call to the local office of the Member of the House of Representatives for your district, and ask to speak with the person in charge of immigration inquiries. |
