Default Need advice on name and possible change

Hi All,

I needed some advice from anyone who can help... My parents immigrated to the United State in the early 80's. I became a naturalized citizen through my parents when they got naturalized. In my culture it's common for last name of the children to be the first name of the father. Therefore my birth certificate reflects this as well as my Naturalization document.

But growing up here I've been using the family name for my last name. In all of my school documents, on my social security card, etc...

Now the dilemma I'm running into is whether I should go back and have my name corrected and how can I do this. I also want to know whether this would be a straightforward case.

The primary reason I want to get this fixed is to potential problems that may arise in the future (i.e. travelling overseas).

All help and advice appreciated!

- Khurram

Generally, a court order is necessary, but all states will have a process in place. Contact your local courthouse!

Impossible to say, really! You might also want to post this in a more appropriate forum.
