Default Naturalization based on 5 years OR 3 years plus marriage?

I am about to apply for citizenship in the USA. I have been a Lawful
Permanent Resident for over 15 years. I have also been married to a US
Citizen for over 5.

So when filling out the application, I am given to choices as to
eligibility:

1. I have been a Lawful Permanent Resident of the US for at least 5
years.
2. I have been a Lawful Permanent Resident of the US for at least 3
years AND have been married to a US citizen for the last 3 years.

My question is, is one choice faster than the other? Will I obtain
citizenship status faster one way or the other?

Anyone know?

Chose No. 1 since you have been a PR for 15 years. You were eligible for naturalization 10 years ago.

Both will take the same amount of time.

You waited 10 years pass the time you were eligible for why the rush now?

I was in the same boat as you are. What you base it on is your choice. Neither one is faster than the other.

If you apply based on being married to USC they can ask for things like joint ownership documents (bank, utility bills, mortgage, car...) to make sure you both are living a joint married life. So, I would think applying based on being married to USC will be a bit slower.

Option 1 is less complicated.

I'm tired of having my job opportunities slashed in half. I do a lot
of contract work and I often find myself in need of security clearance.

Then why the hell didn't you apply 10 years ago when you were first eligible?

What happens when there is a divorce process initiated but not final
yet at the time of citizenship application?

If naturalization application is based on being married to USC then one should be married for at least the prior 3 years (or to be technical may be a bit less) before applying, AND through oath date.

They usually look at the validity of the marriage and I don't know how a divorce process that was initiated but not final will play out. That is for the attorneys.
