N400, what to include in the package? Share
Ok, I spoke to the lawyer, and he told me that one doesnt need to include too much documentation in N400 package, only copy of perm resident card, application, photos, and a check.
She told me to take everything to the interview (divorce decree, red light papers, and etc). However, I read on the USCIS website that one should send almost everything in the package. BUT, i keep reading that applicants receive some kind of paper requesting to bring documentation that already has been submitted with N400 package... What to do?
According to the lawyers, take all necessary documentation (certified), and come to the interview. So, I wonder whether sending it ahead of time would help the IO to review them beforehand, and not to delay the results, or do they usually review everything during the interview and there is no point of sending docs with the package?
Please, advise, especially people who went though the procedure already,
thanks a bunch!

You only need to send in what the N-400 instructions ask for. Everything else goes with you to the interview.

Depends upon the basis for the application. If the application is based upon marriage then you need to send a whole bunch of paperwork. The OP is not clear on this.

I only sent N-400, a check, 2 photos and a copy of both sides of my green card.
Remember to sign the application form - I forgot and the app center returned it to me (waste of $20 for expedited mail).

We sent copies of everything with the application and brought the originals to the interview.
BTW the tax returns are a requirement as they show good moral character.

Enclosed with the interview letter is a N-659 Naturalization Interview Document Check List which gives the documentation required to take. Tax documents are only required for 3 year marriage applications not 5 year.
Copy of said form on this website :

In the Guide to Naturalization the document checklist asks you to send in tax returns only for 3 year marriage applications again not 5 year.
If you have any different official information I would appreciate you sharing it.
Having said all that I'm still taking tax transcripts in case the IO gets confused (and they are free anyway).

Yes it is required. They are included in the checklist. You are right that you don't need them for mailing but you do need them to prove good moral character at the time of the interview.
What the hell is the big deal about providing a copy of them before the interview.
Geezus people, get real.
