N400 Timeline For Indianapolis
I had my interview Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana. Everything went
well. How long is the waiting from interview to receiving the letter
for the Oath Ceremony in Indianapolis?

Well, it has been six months for us since the interview, but you are lucky in that you did not have to wait through all of the "freeze", "new computer" and all of the other excuses that followed last November's debacle at INS Newark. Things seem to be moving again now. I called a few days ago and was able to get a June 10 date for the oath, making it just less than seven months from interview. Still waiting for the written confiration, though.

Thanks Don. How did you call to get your date for the oath ceremony?

I called 317-226-6181 (ext. 6) and asked for my wife's interview agent. In the past I had spoken with her and she had said that the security check had not been completed and to be patient and wait. Several months later I called again and was told she wasn't in, so I asked to speak with her supervisor. The supervisor informed me that the security check had recently cleared and that they were scheduling her for the Oath. I think it's probably better to contact them instead of a Congressman, but they don't advertise their telephone number - took me a while and a little finagling to get it. I don't think my Senator ever really contacted them about our case...

Thank you again. I thought the background check was done before the
interview? Because I was told by Interviewer that she will be
recommending my case for approval but her Supervisor will have the
last say. What were you told after you interview? If you are going to
have your Oath Ceremony on June 10th, does this means that every 10th
of each month there is a ceremony? Do you know how this works?

There are allegedly two security checks, one was required AFTER the Nov. 2002 Newark debacle and was an additional delay for us. Your case is different, as it comes after all of that and the two may be conducted simultaneously. I believe that Indianapolis has (or HAD) a rule that they do not issue the Oath until two months after the interview (that's what I was told on the 800 info. line) but nothing with the BCIS is really certain. I would relax and wait for two months. If you don't hear by then, call your interview agent for a status update. I have no idea on how they schedule oaths - for that you can call the Court house Clerk (317) 229-3700. But I wouldn't get too anxious quite yet. Wait a little while and see what they do, then check if you don't hear anything.

I will just be patient for about two months. Please let us know when
you have received your letter for the Oath Ceremony.

jaytee - my old friend - you're still here! Actually, I'm an atheist, but now I almost have to believe that perhaps there really is a god - got the notice today for my wife's oath on the 10th!!! Thought I heard a chorus of angels chiming in as I opened the mailbox this afternoon. Gabriel's trumpet sounded - the Red Sea parted! Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I tell you, I've felt like Jonah inside the whale since this long wait (which was supposed to be only two months max.) began. It looks to me that what happened was everything went fast for us at first, so they decided to put us aside to wait on others who needed to catch up (looks like they try to keep it about a year total). If they had just told us that it would be inside a year for the whole thing I wouldn't have gotten all wound up about it. Will let you know how the ceremony goes!

Its all over!
Well, almost. Enjoy the ceremony and bring a camera, but make sure you hold onto it 'cause the guests are not allowed in the ceremony room until it is time for the ceremony to begin. There was a married couple there both getting their citizenships and they were not even given seats together. what confusion, ha ha ha!
Have a good time.

Alecia: Our Oath will be held at the Federal Courthouse on Ohio, but they sometimes have them in other locations, like the Fairgrounds, Conner Prairie & Madame C. J. Walker Theater. I was told that they are holding two ceremonies per month at this time.
