N - 400 Selective Service Registration
Hi all,
I came to the states as F1 student , got my green card when I was 25.5
, never knew about the selective service so I never registered for it .
I am 29 now and want to apply for citizenship. What should I do about
the question which ask about the selective services ? , my answer will
be yes but what should I explain or include to why I didn't register ?
Should I try to register? Has anyone experience this before and what
was the outcome, can you share your experience ? . This is really
driving me crazy and I am so worry about the denial of my application .
thanks in advance..

Hi,
I'm 27 now and last year when I applied for N-400, I was told that I
should have registered with selective service before the age of 26,
otherwise I should wait till I get 32 (?) and then apply.

Farbo,
Have you gotten your citizenship ? Did they ask you about the selective
service registeration?

I think I read somewhere that in light of recent events the USCIS extended it to a year in afghanistan as well. There was some talk of also being in any offensive against Iran too...
Anyway good luck with that, and I guess you'll be able to do the citizenship thing when you get back.

Re: N - 400 Selective Service Registration
Sam,
I'm going to be interviewed in April. They will definitely need the
registration number and I was asked to bring my selective service card
with me to the interview. There are some exceptions though which I
don't know (like health/medical problems..)
I was just lucky that when I applied for student loan(at the age of
24), I was automatically enrolled in the selective services (It is a
requirement to get student loan). I had no idea at that time that I
will need this for my N-400 application.

Angry white & Ray,
I am just not going to go down to your level of ignorance and
stupidity. Based on both of your answers I can guarantee you , you are
the type of people that get shipped first and put in the front line ,
and you know why.

Anyway to the OP, just as long as you can show good moral character for 3 or 5 years, it won't hold you up, 3 years if applying based on marriage to a USC, 5 years otherwise.

But back to the subject, I thought it was 5 years being a good boy, no matter on what basis you applied.
I actually would not mind being called up, as long as I could go in as a General, could not do a worse job.
I also dream of the day I will be carded in a bar, neither is likely.
