N-400 Processing Time - Vermont Service Center
I have recently filed for my N-400 Naturalization application with
VSC. I live in Maryland and my local office is in Baltimore. Is there
anyone out there who has also filed his/her N-400 application recently
and lives in Maryland? Just trying to get an idea as to how long I
might have to wait to complete the entire process. I mailed my
application on July 3rd of this year. I have not gotten any response
from them yet. I have heard that it takes approximately 5-7 months for
folks filing from Maryland. Is it still true? Please share your
timeline with the group.
Thanks,
J.K.

Hey J.K
I filed my N-400 with vermont last year , but just to give u idea how this works atleast with vermont office. i filed last year Nov 2002 and i was fingerprinted in March 2003 and then i was shocked when i got this letter of interview from them on May 6th 2003. and the interview date was for July 8th 2003. which was like 9 days ago. i went to interview in garden City New York and passed the interview ( my case was on marriage base 3 year ) .
and now i am awaiting for the Oath ceremony letter. i check my mailbox thinking maybe its in there LOL.because one of my friend who had interview in same office in may 2003 got his notice of oath in 17 days. so i am kinda wondering if i am that lucky as well.
anyways that was my timeline. if u need to know about interview details and stuff let me know i will be happy u let u know..
Good Luck.

We live in Boston, MA. My husband filed his N-400 application to the
Vermont Service Center in Aug of 2002, and we are stil waiting for his
interview appointment. Here's the timeline:
8/1/02 Mailed in application
8/30/02 Receipt notice
10/31/02 Finger print done
Today -- 7/17/03 -- still waiting for the interview letter.
Hope you have better luck in Maryland.

Jessica, have you called the local office or the Sevice Center about the delay you have?
Also, go to the site below, and check your application status.
https://egov.immigration.gov/graphic...d=ddXlCovT1cye
These is just a precaution so u can make sure they didn't schedule your citizenship interview in the past, and got lost in the mail.
Good luck all

J.K.,
I live in Virginia and and submitted my N-400 in May of 2002. My
service center was also Vermont and my local office is Arlington, VA. I
was just interviewed in June of this year, so it took me a little over a
year to get scheduled for the Naturalization interview. I am now waiting
to be scheduled for the Oath Ceremony. Maybe this may give you a rough
idea of how long you may have to wait before you can even get scheduled
for your Naturalization interview.

my timeline
The online and automated phone status check is rubbish.
Writing: Don't even waste your time writing to service centers or district offices. Calling (repeatedly) or visiting the district office is the only way to get anything accomplished. Maintain factual, friendly tone. If you get a friendly & helpful rep, do lots of inquiring and prodding.. slowly and patiently ask lots of specific questions and nudge them a little. (for instance: "I'm hearing that everyone is in a holding pattern for FBI background checks and this is causing a lot of the delays. hahaha Is that true?" Rep "I can't give you the answer to that, but that is part of it, yes. I can tell you that large backlogs are building up at our service center and even at the district offices that we are trying to clear. " Take a big interest in the process and what they do.
You will start gathering clues to solve the mystery.
BTW the interviewing officers have a unlisted phone number with extension for their office. If you write to your officer: at the Vermont service center they use a simple blue envelope for return envelopes with the content, like PHOTOS, listed on a line at the bottom left.
It is just a maze they have at all these offices. I sent my photos the first time using a regular envelope and, several weeks later, they hadn't made it to the officer's desk.

Re: N-400 Processing Time - Vermont Service Center
Yes, we called the vermont center twice. Both times they said that my
husband's application was waiting to be scheduled for an interview.
We also called the National Service Center and did case inquiries
twice. Both times we didn't hear anything back. Last Friday we went
to the INS Boston office in person -- and found that they were closed
for every 3rd Friday of the month.
It's been extremely frustrating. But we are keeping our hopes up and
will go to the INS Boston office in person again shortly.

I filed for citizenship in May of this year with VSC. My local office is Newark, NJ. My online case status check indicates that it takes anywhere from 240 to 300 days to process this type of application (don't know how accurate that info is).
Timeline so far:
mailed application: may 6
receipt received: jun 11, priority date: may 9
fingerprint notification received: jul 5
fingerprinting done: jul 19

I think your timeline is very similar to folks in Maryland area.
Unfortunately, folks filling from Arlington, VA have a completely
different story to tell. Even though our service center (VSC) is the
same, the actual processing time varies widely. I think it is the
local office that matters the most when it comes to processing the
N-400 application. What do you guys think?

Re: N-400 Processing Time - Vermont Service Center
My timeline so far:
-Mailed N-400 application on 7/3/03
-First NOA on 8/9/03 with a priority date of 7/7/03
-Second NOA on 8/16/03 for fingerprint appointment date of 9/5/03
I was informed by others that I can take the civic test at the time of
fingerprinting (ASC - INS Glenmont, MD). Also, our district office
(Baltimore, MD) conducts two administrative oath ceremonies daily for
folks who pass the interview. I am hoping to be scheduled for an
interview before the end of this year. I will keep you informed.
Thanks for the information you all have provided on this news group.
