My girlfriend got the job in US
Hi all,
My girlfriend (from Argentina) recently got a job offer from an
US company. She currently lives and works in Argentina,
and is an accounting professional with a big accounting firm.
I'm from the Czech republic and currently live and work in
Germany. I'm an IT professional, hold a 4-year university degree
and work for a smallish IT firm in Nuremberg.
We've been together for two years now. Since she lives
in Argentina and I live in Europe, we've been visiting each other
two times per year, either in Europe or Argentina. We can
document this with photos and emails. We are still not married,
however.
Question: is it possible for us to start living together in US,
after she arrives in US? If yes, what would be the best way
to do it?
Sincerely,
MK

unless you don't get a visa yourself that allows you to stay (and maybe work) you can not do much since you are not married.
Assuming, you would marry her and she would get an H1B work visa, then you can apply for H4 visa as the spouse, but you are not allowed to work.
If you want to work, best thing is to start looking for an employer who sponsors you for an H1B. But this would be difficult since you are tied to the region where your girlfriend will work...

Thanks Ivonne. I have two questions:
1) can I enter US with H4 and then switch to H1B (after I find
an employer)?
2) can I study in US, if on H4?

You can get H-4 after you get married, not before. Yes, you can go to school
on H-4.
