I know. But at least as a nurse the OPs got a route to a visa for Canada (for now anyway), unlike the US.

With respect, I don't think you fully understand the issue. What you're suggesting is an F-1 student visa for her to study nursing in the US. Given that she's going to be studying nursing in the UK, your suggestion puts her in a precarious financial situation considering the international tuition rates and the fact that she has to have sufficient funds up front before she can even get the visa. This is compounded by the fact that she can't work on an F-1 visa except on campus (unless she gets special permission), and not at all during the first year. Further, say she does do a nursing degree in the US... that doesn't actually help her either - because she still can't work in the US without being sponsored... and there are no visas for nurses. She might be able to get an H-1B... but even that's a long shot.

I'm sure your post was well intentioned, but it contains a number of hidden problems.
