He still gets to present a defence for the sentencing phase. Would you rather that the death sentence were mandatory for such cases?

Even if he recieves the death penalty, it will be many years before the sentance is carried out. He will get to spend lots of time locked up like a dog.

No....actually in this case I'd prefer he was locked up for the rest of his natural with some of the worst American criminals there are...ones that will take all the pent up hate and aggression out on his terrorist ass for being a terrorist against their country.

The death penalty would be such waste of an opportunity.

Explain/excuse - what is the difference ??

If an explanation attempts to mitigate a persons involvement in an incident does it then become an excuse ???

Not sure what context you were referring to. It is the defence attorney's job to try and get the best possible outcome for his/her client. The fact that, in this case, she has nothing to grasp but straws surely cannot be held against her.

You said "DO".

ANYWAY... ... I'm not holding it against her I'm simply putting it into the context of why she is saying what she said as an expert witness of the defence. The defence's reason for her saying it is to convince the jury that he should not get the death penalty. That's their job I'm not saying it's wrong I'm merely taking the prosecution's stand.

The Enron trial is far more fascinating for me.... slippery defendants testifying in their own defence.... cross-examination....

Seems to me like the defense are really grasping at straws.
If any of the jury are under 30 there is a big possibility that they have also come from a 'broken' home.
However I doubt any of them became a religious nut with intentions to kill.

I think this will ultimately backfire on him, it jus gives the impression that the defense are playing the "I had a horrible childhood thats why I'm bad" card.

Talking Re: Moussaoui came from a broken home

He wants to die, so as he can become a martyr to his sick cause.

Therefore, I suggest that he should be sentenced to life in a Colorado Federal Maximum Security Prison, where it gets extremely cold in the winter.......with music from the likes of Danny La Rue, Max Bygraves, Val Doonican & George Formby etc piped into his cell 24/7.

He can spend the rest of his miserable life, being guarded and told when he can and can not eat by Infidel Guards.

Also, his family would have a hell of a job, travelling from France (no rifle-dropping jokes, please) to Florence, Colorado to visit the guy.

Any thoughts???

Jim.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what he would prefer. I would add, lock him up in solitary confinement for the whole term. No way would I execute him and turn him into some sort of righteous martyr. Hes a poster child for whinging "I got slapped around as kid thats why I turned to terrorism". Give me an enormous break.

Solitary confinement would be such waste. I think he should be given every opportunity to "socialise" with the other prisoners.

In the shower blocks especially.
