I went for medical exam this week. The doctor tested for TB (which came back negative) was
a skin test btw. Do I need the chest xrays? Next...i got the blood tests done for HIV and
something else..am waiting on results I have no immunixzation records so therefore doc
told me to get MMR(measles mumps rubella) and testanus. Is there anything else I am
missing? do I HAVE to get the vaccinations? (deathly afraid of needles)

Thank You

Hehehe.. Hi Mick,

Well, it seems you have pretty much everything. I also didn't have an immunization record,
my doctor gave me a new one. As far as I know, you don't need X-rays. Supposedly they only
do them when the TB test comes out positive (with skin reaction).

For the MMR, that's ok, you will get the vaccine, just one shot.

The other vaccines are according to age and time of year, as in the Flu, wich is only
given during the Fall. Just make sure that you have the Hepatitis B series, at least
started, it takes 6 months to complete.

BTW, I am also horrified of needles, and I almost fainted the first time.. I got 3 shots
and 1 blood test the first day.. then 1 more in January (for HepB) and 1 more blood test..
still need 1 HepB shot.. yuck...

Also, I don't know what your doctor told you, but my physician requiered me to get the
blood tests to check for antibodies for rubella (varicella) and hepatitisB. If you have
the antibodies, you don't need another shot. Just letting you know.

Good luck, and don't forget to breath, please don't faint.. lol. Nalu.

Mick, this is for the SF office, right? Do you recommend the doctor you went to, if who is
he, how much did the exam cost, etc?

I have to get mine done pretty soon, have to get my fingerprints done next week, so I
figure the AOS interview is coming up soon.

Nope. You get the X-rays if the skin test is positive.

The something else is syphillis if I remember correctly.

Just get what the doc. ordered - by the way it's tetanus/dyptheria (TD) though I'm not
sure they give tetanus by itself anyway. Don't worry about the needles - look the other
way and babble away inanely at the nurse while they're doing their thing! Did they mention
varicella? I didn't need to get that since I had had chicken pox as a child (they just
took my word for that).

Andy.

I also had varicella as a child, I told this to my doctor, but nevertheless, he ordered
a blood test to check for antibodies and see if I was immune. (The supplemental form
has several columns, one of them ask specifically about being immune to the diseases
marked there).

I am sorry to tell you this. Yes, you do have to get the vaccinations.
