Default Marriage of two UKC before moving to San Francisco

Hi everyone,

Sorry for creating a new thread for this, I have tried to find my answers in another post but have had no luck so sorry if I have missed this!

My boyfriend has been asked to transfer to San Francisco in October and we have been going back and forth about what our best options are.
We have talked about marriage before the transfer was offered so it is something that we are looking to do. As we understand it will help me a lot but before we commit to anything we had a few questions:
1. From reading, we can see that some people have been asked for proof of the wedding - we were hoping to go to registry office with just our parents as neither of us are bothered about a big wedding. Has anyone experienced them questioning/ being difficult about them having a wedding in a registry office as opposed to a 'big day'?
2. As we have been given the date of October to move, we also wanted to know if you have to be married for a certain amount of time before I can be included on his visa?

Just a note, I will be going out on an E2 visa if we are married.

Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BE.

You will have a marriage certificate...that’s proof of marriage.

Are you sure it’s an E2 visa?

1. You will have the marriage certificate as proof.
2. No.

BTW, if OP is living with her partner, B-2 non-immigrant visa is a possibility.

We did this and the aforementioned answers are correct. Certificate is all you need. No questions asked.

Did the same 6 weeks before arriving: no questions asked. I think only those that are coming in from countries where arranged marriages are still common practice might face some scrutiny.
