Hi, I heard that the spouse will automatically get greencard if they get marry before
apply I-485 ? Assume that they fill in neccessary form. Is that true ? Or they need
to get marry before I-140 ? Thanks a lot. David

Actually, they can get married anytime before the Greencard gets approved. For
example, I had applied for my I-485 in September of 1999. I am still on H-1B. I got
married in January of 2000. My wife entered US in H-4 right after that. Her I-485
(derivative of mine) was applied in March of 2000. Both of our applications are
pending still but we both are together and will be together until we get our GC. So,
the trick is to get your spouse here on H-4 before your H-1 expires. I don't know
what happens if you are no longer on H-1 (you are on EAD instead).
