Default Lost/Stolen Greencard, N-400

I had my green card stolen while I was in China recently, when I flew back to the US I showed them a copy of it at immigration and they did some computer stuff and let me in so I assume its probably in the computer as lost. The officer told me to go online and apply for a new one.

My question is that since I was planning to send in my N400 soon is there any way I can skip paying for a replacement green card and just apply for Naturalization instead?

Just trying to save myself a little cash, if I have to pay for a replacement green card I'll probably just wait a year or two before I apply for a naturalization.

Yes... and no. If you have a copy of the front and back of your GC, go ahead and submit the N-400. However, you'll need to show your GC when you go for biometrics and again at your interview. You're going to need a replacement... but you've got a bit of time to get it.

It may take a year just to get the replacement. If you need to travel, you should make an InfoPass appointment and get an I-551 stamp in your passport. Oh, and you'll need to show proof that you've applied for a replacement.

If you have a copy of the green card (front and back) send it in for N400.

At the interview, show the police report and that will get you off the hook when they ask for green card and also for the oath ceremony.

No need for filing for replacement gc - save your money.
