Default lost passport lost green card -agggghhh

guys.

I travel back to England in 2 weeks since my dad is terminally ill. I have a UK passport and a permanent resident card.
I have misplaced both my passport and my green card.
I have been told that I can get emergency travel documents and travel Miami to get them BUT I have to take my visa down with me.
I contacted USCIS that I need to file form i90. Looking online that seems to take several months to get me a replacement card.

Is all of this information correct and my hopes of making my flight in 2 weeks doomed ?

Firstly, sorry to hear about your dad

This is a tricky situation - if you had just lost your green card you could book an Infopass appointment and get a stamp in your passport that would allow you to re-enter the USA while you wait for a replacement card. I doubt they will stamp an emergency travel document, and even if they did I think they are a one use only thing so you couldn't use it to fly back to the US anyway.

You may have to get an emergency travel document, fly back to the UK, get a full replacement passport while back in the UK using the same day service then apply for a transportation letter from the US Embassy London to be able to return to the US. I don't see any other way to do it.

These days an airline won't even let you board without a valid ESTA (which you can't get as a LPR), visa or green card.

Unless there is some shortcut way I believe the process is as follows:
- Fill in I-90 online, submit $590 (?) payment
- Wait for biometrics appointment (likely to be weeks)
- After biometrics go for Infopass and get your stamp.
In terms of getting back into the US with just a stamp, that barely took more than a second for the officer to process when we returned with the stamp instead of GC. I think the problem here is the wait for the biometrics appointment.

Yes, I think you have to go to a consular office to get it but that in itself shouldn't be too much problem... going to the UK anyway. FWIW standard renewals are taking about 2 weeks anecdotally.

You need to file a police report, even if they're just misplaced. Then you need to go to the British consulate office and get a replacement passport or at least a temporary passport document. A letter from your father's doctor will help at the consulate. Then you need to get an infopass appointment with USCIS to get a temporary stamp (I551) in your passport. I'm sorry about your situation.

Report your passport lost and make an application for a new one online now. The recent turnaround times are quick enough that you should get your new passport back within two weeks.

As for the lost green card situation, I'll let others advise.

In regards to the replacement green card and I-551 stamp in your passport, you do not need to file for a replacement card and pay the fee before you make and attend an infopass appointment. That should be one of the first things you do ... make the appointment. You also will not require an emergency travel document from the US Embassy in London as long as you have the I-551 stamp in your passport. You can apply for the replacement card, at any time.

As for dealing with the replacement UK Passport, you have sound advice from others.

Hmm, well if I was wrong then apologies. Even USCIS officers (not clerks/admin) have told us two very conflicting things about lost GC and travel.
