Default lost and found green card

I became a legal permanent resident in may 2005, i ecieved my welcome letter and thought that i never rec eived my green card. After numerous calls to uscis, i went into 26 federal plaza, told my story, had my passport stamped and was told to apply for a replacement which i did in august of 2005

A few months later, while awaiting the new card, i found the previously issued card, in a pile of unopened junk mail
I called ins that week and spoke to one of the reps, who told me that since i had a ten year card i sould have no problem if i wanted to travel. I left it at that.

Now i have tickets booked to go home in june 07' iam thinking to go into federal plaza to explain the situation, because i fear that when iam at the airport thet may think something fraudulent is going on because i have a pending application and the green card that i had stated i never recieved
can anyone shed any light if they have been in this situation or know anyone who has?

You mean you applied for a replacement card in August 2005, and as of May 2007 you have not received the replacement?

When you called USCIS to let them know you found your old card, did they cancel the production on your replacement card?

I don't know why it would cause a problem....the information on both cards would be the same, would it not?

It would cause a problem because a reported lost card is an INVALIDATED
card.
It's just like reporting a lost passport that has not expired. It would be
canceled and invalidated and by internal procedures the database would
reflect that it has been reported lost and thus canceled.
You don't think it is prudent for DHS personnel to just ignore documenting a
report for a lost card thinking that it might be found someday, do you?

With the high probability of impostors using found or stolen cards, a
properly documented lost card would alert the inspector at the POE when it
is scanned saying that it has been cancelled.
Unfortunately, even if the real owner finds his reported lost card, the
system database is not flexible enough to be amended by the inspector to
reflect that the card is found.
If the real owner uses an invalidated card at the POE after he has already
filed an I-90, his card would be lifted and he would be made to file an
I-193 in order to be allowed back into the US. Otherwise, an I-90 would be
required if he has not filed it yet after the reported loss.

Different cards issued would have different service center receipt numbers
even though most of the information would stay the same.

Why do that? You have a new card in the works and an I-551 stamp in your passport.

You have everything you need to travel and return to the US with just the stamp. Let USCIS produce the new card, when it is received, cut up the old one into tiny pieces and get on with your life.

Simple really.

That's the best way to deal with it. I don't believe an invalid card can be
reinstated and moved out of the canceled list especially after a new
replacement application has been put into motion.
Besides, it is foolish to do so since the money paid for the I-90
application would never be refunded if you request it to be stopped.

Wait for the new card and return or destroy the old card.

Note: An I-551 card (canceled or expired) is still government property and
it is supposed to be returned back to DHS but, if you decide to keep it as
a memento and don't use it nobody would give you a hassle for it especially
when it has been reported lost.

the thing is the i551 stamp in my passport has expired in o8' o6, (it was issued in 08 05') when i found my card, i did not know that it would be considered 'invalid' so i never went in to renew the stamp, and when i called the 1-800 # the customer service guy told me i would be able to travel on the the card and it shouldn't be problem because the actual 'lost' card expires 2015. i was elated, until i told one of my friends and she said maybe i should go in to see an immigration officer, just to be on the safe side ( although i had already booked my tickets which are non refundable ) i leave on june 5th and really hope that something can be done, even if it means stamping my passport again, anything!!!!!!!

I just don't want to lose my money, tickets cost me $1200.00!!!!! I intend to take my confirmation and everything, i just pray the officer is in a good mood.
I feel so depressed with the whole situation, i haven't seen my family in years.
Wish me luck guys!!!!!!!!

Wow... $1200 is quite a chunk of change... but you know, this isn't a life and death situation. It's only money... and there are worse things than money that you can lose. Perhaps a little perspective is required.
