Default L1 Visa employer's responsibility question

I am sure someone has the answer to this question.

I was transfered under an L1A visa to the USA from NZ. My company at the time would
not pay for my green card. They paid for my relocation to the US, for myself and family.
However I have no contract to say that they will relocate me back downunder.

What is the employers responsibility in this situation ?. Do they have to relocate me
back under US immigration law, or is it my responsibilty ?. What if I over stay are they
liable ??.

Tks for your advise....Darrin

If this was an H-1B, they would have to pay for your return flight to NZ,
but not for moving your furniture etc.

As an L-1, they don't even have to do that.

If you overstay, they aren't liable for anything unless you continued
working for them without authorization - the only one suffering
consequences would be you.
