Default Just got married, just a question or two about these forms :-Z

Hi,

My fiance and I just got married - I am here on a tourist visa from the UK and we are
about to file our forms :-Z

I just have a couple of questions:

Does my fiance fill out the forms she has to file in her married name or her maiden
name? (sorry if this is a silly question)

Do we both need to supply a copy of our birth certs or does that only apply to me?

Does my wife need to supply an employment letter and does she need to supply bank
statements?

Whats the Alien Registration number?

Are these forms correct, do I need any others...

I file:

I485 G325A I693 I864 I765

My wife files:

I130 G325A

Is this correct?

I am panicking right now, frankly the INS scares me and I want to get
everything right.

If you could answer any of these questions I would be very grateful.

Thanks

R

Married name in most places - some forms explicitly ask for maiden name and other
forms have a space for "other names" which would include the maiden name.

Both. She needs to use hers to show she's a US citizen.

It depends. The employment letter can be used for the I-864 but a current payslip is
just as good. She will only need to supply bank statements if she has to use assets
to make up a shortfall in income on the I-864.

    > Whats the Alien Registration number?

You'll get one after you apply. Put NONE on the forms.

Technically your wife files the I-864. If you want to travel and you haven't
overstayed your visa by more than six months, you can file an I-131. Whether you file
the I-693 now or prior to the interview depends on the local INS office you are
filing at. Don't forget the ADIT photos and the fees! See this site for more info:

Hi, The only thing that I can add to Andy's good advice is: some INS field offices
have different procedures, and you may want to check with your local INS office on
this one. My fiance and I will be filing for AOS at the Portland, Oregon field office
and I spoke with them yesterday concerning some procedural questions that I had.

The Portland field office REQUIRES an employment letter (not just paystubs) when
submitting the I-864.

Just a heads-up that there are variations. I used the AOS letter on the Doc Steen
website and sent it to the Portland office - the woman who called me at work
yesterday said that they get 100's of letters...and that she was so impressed with
this one, that she had to call and answer the questions personally! For example, on
their website it says you cannot file in person - through mail only. When in fact,
you CAN file in person...etc...

She also said the Bush just gave the INS a lot of money, and one of the rules is that
K-1 visa's are top priority now when it comes to AOS. She said interview will be 1-3
weeks after submitting paperwork, and green card in approx. 6 months.

Pretty cool!
