J-1 Work Authorization
I'm currently working at a US University as a postdoc on a J-1 visa (classified as Research Scholar). Is there any way I can get dispensation to work outside my field of research (and for an unrelated local company)? I've basically been offered a small, one-off web-design project but am hesitant to contravene any J-1 rules... I spotted that J-1 students can get their universities to sign off off-campus employment if they're under economic hardship, but don't know if it also applies to non-students...
