Re: interview.
Paul,
I assume your waiting for the Police cert so you can "tick the box" on the form you'll be sending in, saying that you've got it ?
Only I've not heard of anyone sending thye police cert in, only taking it to the interview. But then I'm getting a K1 visa, yours maybe different, but then you say "fiance" so it may be the K1 ??
It's important to let people know what visa your getting as it may affect the answer you get.
I cant answer the question about interview dates, when I asked the INS Helpline, I was told it would be 8-12 weeks, then got an interview date two weeks later.
An the medical ... see ...
For real peoples experiences (thank Rete)

and the US Embassy site ...

And if your going to the States whilst applying for a K1, make sure know the risks, and you've covered all the issues about "not getting entry to the US". Saying that I have visited twice without any problems, but be prepared.

Re: interview.
You don't need to send in your Police certificate, you take it with you to the interview.
If you do get an interview date and still haven't received it and start to panic, phone the local Data Protection Office, explain your situation, from numerous postings on here (and my own experience) they are very helpful.
Just so that you know, when you receive it, if it has blue stripes
at the top and bottom, that's the one the Embassy want.
As Rob said, I phoned the helpline on Monday and was told
6-8 weeks and yesterday received an interview date for the
10th July.
Good luck

Yes, you can tell the consulate when you will be unavailable for interview and they can work around these dates. They are really very reasonable.
