INS freeze and plastic green cards
Does anybody know if plastic cards are still being issued or if that
departmetn of INS is also shut down? I got my AOS approval on August
15th at Kansas City office, and now I am waiting for my green card. I
am a bit nervous about traveling overseas with a I-551 stamp.

you don't need to be nervous travelling with I-551 stamp, I travelled with
that and had no problem at all. Plastic Green Card takes 4 months to get.
Don't worry about it, you can travel.

Re: INS freeze and plastic green cards
Hi,
The I-551 has exactly the same "power" as the green card and you have no fears about travelling without the green card.
Yes it does still come laminated, my daughter received hers within 2 weeks of us arriving although I'm still waiting for mine
(it could have something to do with the fact that she received 2 welcoming letters and I've only received one, so far)

Re: INS freeze and plastic green cards
We just got the "Green Card" a week or so ago, so they still seem to be
producing them!
Don't worry about traveling with the I-551 stamp. It is as good as a green
card.
Regards!

Re: INS freeze and plastic green cards
Wow! These posts eased my mind as well. I was wondering about the same
thing. I'm thinking about visiting my parents back home but was nervous
about getting out of the country with "just the red stamp". I guess though,
all of you out there had experience and didn't have a problem getting back
in, I shouldn't be worried :-)
good luck everyone,
Selin
