Not very helpful for those of us who are trying to plan their lives around this.

If anyone else wants to try giving the UK Home Office a call after 6th October, please post here if you get any helpful answers. (We will also be calling them, but one never knows who will answer the phone! The more people who call, the greater chance we may have at finding out if/when the legislation would be enacted.)
Hi Aperture, thank you for updating on the information you obtained from your phone-call to UK parliament and UK Home-Office. I believe they stated after 6th Oct as that is when the Govt proposals for the new immigration rules will be published...the rules will be more strict than it currently is and shall be implemented from April 2012.

Unfortunately, the UK Home Office would not confirm either date. The consultation closes on 6th October, but they will not say when after that date the new rules will be published and we won't know for sure which of the proposed changes they will implement and which they will discard.

Also, they cannot confirm if the rules will actually be implemented in April 2012--it's merely a proposed date, and a vague one at that. (1st April? 30th April?)

Here's hoping something shows up on the UK Home Office website very soon after 6th October!
