I-485 Question
Hey there,
I got my K1 visa in January and married mid-April. We sent off my I-485 (change of status to permanent resident) papers about 6 weeks ago and I was called for fingerprints, photo two weeks ago.
My question is, does anyone have any idea how long I can be waiting for the decision to be made? My immigration lawyer had told me it would probably take about 2 months to come through. He has been wrong in the past and i'm not sure whether he is correct or not so I was wondering what other people's experiences had been? He had actually given me bad advice from the start, he advised that I apply for my work permit back when I had my K1 visa..so it came through (after we spent nearly $400) with an expiration date 3 weeks' later..I was not impressed! He initially implied that the work authorization would be good to carry on through...a complete waste of money.
Some friends had suggested that, if it does only take roughly two months, it should come through soon..so maybe I could start looking for work but I don't want to find the job of my dreams and then not be able to take it because I'm still waiting to receive my green card!
Your replies much appreciated

Re: I-485 Question
It can take about 90 days to get your EAD after filing AOS.
It can take about 6 months or so to get your AOS interview after filing the AOS package.
If your current EAD expires, and you have not yet received the 1-year EAD (which you included in your AOS package), you will not have work authorization during that gap between the two. If your employer doesn't find out, or doesn't mind, you can continue working and it will be forgiven by USCIS. But you won't have any actual legal work authorization during that time.

How long will my case take?
What are my chances? [aka "can I be denied?]
How will "they" know?
What is the nature of God?
The first question is perfectly reasonable. The phrase "your mileage may vary" has come into vogue.
Good luck.
