Hi!! I have on more question: My husband was married to another woman back in 1997 while
he still lived in Canada. That marriage did not work out and he left her in early Feb
1999 around the time he and I met online. He was not with her at all but had not yet
filed for divorce. We talked for several months online and became closer and he finally
filed for divorce in August of 1999. In Canada they have a one year waiting period before
a divorce is final so it was finally granted August 31st 2000. He came to visit me for
the 3rd time to celebrate and we ended up marrying on September 28 2000. So technically
he was only divorced for alittle less than one month before we married. Will the INS look
down on this??? If Canada didn't have that one year waiting period it would have takened
only about 3 months to grant a divorce because their divorce was amicably. Our marriage
in Sept was kind of a spur of the moment thing anyways. It was a simple Justice of the
Peace wedding. During that time we had NO CLUE about immigrattion things until a few
weeks into our marriage. We didn't know he needed an EAD card or Adjust papers or
anything like that. Anyways I just wanted to know what the INS might think of this
marriage... since he was only divorced for less than 30 days. He and his exwife had been
apart since 1998 and he and I have been together since Feb 1999 until now Feb 2001 (2
years). Thanks for your time!

INS does not care. It is usually the in-laws and this newsgroup people that you find hard
to answer. Read the resource web pages; you will find that there are answers to many
questions that will come up in your mind.

As Onigiri said INS won't give a tinker's damn. However, be sure that you married after he
got his divorce absolute and not just the first decree. The divorce is not final in Canada
until one month after the original decree is received. I know because I have a Canadian
husband who was divorced in Canada.
