There's only 3 of you so far that did not marry an american? Wow I thought most would have got a job and moved here!
Like my hubby, got offered a job - I came along for the ride (though 9 and a half hours is a long ride)

met lovely texan man (he hates to be called a yank ) many yrs ago in a hotel lift as you do
his company very conveniently opened an office in london and all was well for 18 yrs until the company offered him a mega promotion to the home office and so here we are....
